my story

I go by Oppo, I was born October 23, 1990 in San Antonio Texas. I was adopted and grew up around Philadelphia, then moved to Hawaii. I was making music, playing shows and living life. I used to use an MPC 2000xl, an Electribe ESX, a Microkorg and a mixer to make beats live with no computer or software. On July 24th 2011 on the way back from a show at around 3am the car I was in was hit dead-on by a drunk driver. Even though I was in the back seat behind the driver I fractured my skull, broke my neck (c4,c5 and c6), broke some ribs and fractured my hip. I spent some time on a ventilator in the ICU at Queens Medical Center then moved onto the Rehab Center of the Pacific both in Honolulu, Hawaii. I made the 10 hour non-stop flight to the east coast and spent more time at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital located in Philadelphia, PA. I am now in a powered wheelchair, paralyzed from the chest down and have no use of my hands or fingers but still manage to produce new music with an iPad using the Beatmaker 2 app and a stylus strapped to my hand. The lawyers get rich while I still haven’t gotten a penny for settlement money. Theres no one to sue because the driver who hit us did not make it thru the accident. I try to maintain a positive attitude for my path to recovery believing that everything happens for a reason no matter how shitty it is and knowing that something good will come out of this. You wouldn’t believe the crazy and strange complications that come with a spinal chord injury that I never thought about and never knew existed. Im on a mission to bring awareness to drunk driving and spinal chord inuries while tryina get myself to the to the top with my music.
